Lok sabha elections have been on the edge

The size of the people sit outside and disapprove of the government. But if one wants to change the system, he or she has to be a part of the system. In the course of evaluation of the arrangement and phasing options available for the General elections 2009, the Election Commission of India held a meeting with the representatives of all renowned National and State parties on 3rd February, 2009 to obtain their views on various issues linked with the Indian elections. The Commission also held a series of meetings with the Directors General of Police and Chief Electoral Officers of all States, Chief Secretaries, with a view to judging the law and order situation, the requirement of Central Police Forces (CPF) and to review the overall vigilance of the election machinery in the country.

The conduct of General Elections 2009 in the entire country requires considerable deployment of Central and State Police Forces. Enlistment, operation, movement and disconnection of these forces involve a multifarious exercise and detailed home-work. Congress released its Election manifesto – Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Congress Party released its election manifesto saying they will eradicate terrorism, protect farmers and maintain economic growth in the face of the global economic crisis this is their first and foremost priority. The party's policies were unveiled in national capital New Delhi by Sonia Gandhi and our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the Election 2009.

Sonia Gandhi said “There can be many candidates for the post of prime minister but nobody stands in front of Manmohan Singh. He has both experience and competence".
"I appeal to the people to vote for Manmohan Singh," she said in seeking another term for her party. In response Singh said “Congress was the only political party of national consequence and claimed his government had fulfilled its promises to the common people”.

A recent poll was conducted, it showed that United Progressive Alliance was likely to beat the BJP challenge, but it would require smaller parties to join them to form a government.
