Lok sabha elections have been on the edge

The size of the people sit outside and disapprove of the government. But if one wants to change the system, he or she has to be a part of the system. The most recent reports on Indian elections suggest that various people may not even go and cast votes. Well, both the government and many private firms have been running campaigns urging the citizens to exercise their license for lok sabha elections. The security situation in Assam, which has witnessed serial blasts on 6 April, may force both the PM and his wife, of them to refrain from voting.

In the course of evaluation of the arrangement and phasing options available for the General elections 2009, the Election Commission of India held a meeting with the representatives of all renowned National and State parties on 3rd February, 2009 to obtain their views on various issues linked with the Indian elections. The Commission also held a series of meetings with the Directors General of Police and Chief Electoral Officers of all States, Chief Secretaries, with a view to judging the law and order situation, the requirement of Central Police Forces (CPF) and to review the overall vigilance of the election machinery in the country.

The conduct of General Elections 2009 in the entire country requires considerable deployment of Central and State Police Forces. Enlistment, operation, movement and disconnection of these forces involve a multifarious exercise and detailed home-work. Muslim hate speech was cause of arrest for Varun Gandhi

Varun Gandhi arrested on Saturday by UP police for making inflammatory comments against Muslims during a speech. Police got violent, fired in air and charged on at least 10000 supporters of Varun Gandhi. This all could affect the votes as Elections 2009 is approaching. This arrest was the outcome of his speech which he gave in early March this year comparing Muslims to Osama Bin Laden and threatening Muslims. After this Gandhi denied what all was said in the speech and claiming the footage to be fake.

He said that he is not guilty of what he said and he is ready to go to jail for his people. Varun Gandhi has been demanded to be dropped from the BJP as a candidate as India’s election commission will monitor his future campaign rallies from now.

Congress released its Election manifesto – Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Congress Party released its election manifesto saying they will eradicate terrorism, protect farmers and maintain economic growth in the face of the global economic crisis this is their first and foremost priority. The party's policies were unveiled in national capital New Delhi by Sonia Gandhi and our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the Election 2009.

Sonia Gandhi said “There can be many candidates for the post of prime minister but nobody stands in front of Manmohan Singh. He has both experience and competence".
"I appeal to the people to vote for Manmohan Singh," she said in seeking another term for her party. In response Singh said “Congress was the only political party of national consequence and claimed his government had fulfilled its promises to the common people”.

A recent poll was conducted, it showed that United Progressive Alliance was likely to beat the BJP challenge, but it would require smaller parties to join them to form a government.
